Nebraska Doubles Teams Out, Singles To Come

Norman, Okla. - The Nebraska women's tennis team put together a solid performance as the USTA/ITA Central Region Tournament at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday. The Huskers only played doubles matches due to inclement weather postponing all outdoor games. With only limited indoor courts, the teams played through the doubles bracket with the finals two tandems decided and waiting for the championship match on Sunday or Monday.

In first round doubles, NU's Maike Zeppernicka and Izabella Zgierska fell to Iowa State's Ksenia Pronina and Samantha Budai 3-8 while fellow Huskers Maggy Lehmicke and Mary Hanna toppled Bradley's Ariel Dechter and Sarah Rodefeld 8-1. The scarlet and cream's Lauren Wagner and Katerina Matysova ousted UMKC's Dimitra Stavriankou and Ammar Mouhoub 8-5 while the last Nebraska pair Brittany Brewster and Lisa Andersson edged out Wichita State's Veronika Blaskova and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul 8-5.

In the second round of doubles, NU's Lehmicke and Hanna scorched Arkansas State's Janie Nowland and Tamara Slipjepcevic 8-3. Nebraska's Brewster and Andersson fell to Kansas' Maria Jose Cardona and Maria Belen Luduena 0-8 while Huskers teammates Wagner and Matysova were defeated by Arkansas' Yang Pang and Kimberley-Ann Surin 0-8.

Nebraska's Lehmicke and Hanna had their doubles run come to a close in the third round where they fell to Oklahoma's Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie 3-8.

The singles matches are set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning if weather permits. The Huskers are still set to face the same players as planned. The results from Saturday's matches will be posted here on Huskers.com at the conclusion of the day's play. Go Big Red!
