Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska freshmen Austin Epperson and Travis Gollott were listed as the Huskers' two gymnasts to watch in 2014, according to the Big Ten on Thursday. They were among 14 gymnasts - two from each team - named to the 2014 Watch List.
Epperson redshirted his first year with the team after undergoing surgery just before the beginning of the competitive season. Gollott joined the team this year as a highly-anticipated recruit. Both gymnasts had notable club careers before coming to the Big Red.
The conference also announced the preseason coaches poll results. The team rankings placed Nebraska in seventh amongst the seven Big Ten teams, dropping one position from the previous two years' preseason results. The Huskers begin the season ranked No. 10 nationally.
Michigan took the top spot in the Big Ten's preseason poll for the second year in a row, followed by Ohio State. Rounding out the top five were Illinois (No. 3), Penn State (No. 4) and Minnesota (No. 5).
NU ushers in the 2014 season on the road at the 33rd-annual Rocky Mountain Open. The Huskers will then return home to host the Air Force Academy for their first of two regular-season home meets. Nebraska will face the Falcons on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
