Portland, Ore. - Nebraska's Maggy Lehmicke and Izabella Zgierska emerged with a doubles win but unfortunately dropped their singles matches facing some tough competition on Saturday at the USTA Collegiate Invitational presented by Adidas and hosted by the University of Portland at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. Neither Husker was able to snatch a singles win but they paired up to tally a victory as a scarlet and cream tandem.
To begin the day, Lehmicke and Zgierska toppled USTA Juniors Jada Hart and Riley McQuaid 8-3 in their consolation doubles match.
Following the doubles action, NU's Zgierska dropped her Group F singles match to USTA Junior Hart 6-7 (3), 0-6. Husker Lehmicke narrowly lost a three-set thriller to ITA pre-season No. 25-ranked Michigan's Emina Bektas 6-2, 2-6, 3-6 in Group A.
There is only singles to come on Sunday, with the final round of pool play to be played in the morning followed by the wildcard "shootout" to determine the winner whom receives a bid to a USTA Pro Circuit event in 2014. Nebraska's Zgierska is set to face Michigan's Brooke Bolender with Husker teammate Lehmicke ready to battle USTA Junior Erica Oosterhout later in the morning.
