Huskers See Success at Senior Night

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 12 Nebraska men's gymnastics team returned to Lincoln for their final regular season meet of the 2014 season. The Huskers competed against No. 5 Minnesota, No. 6 Illinois, No. 7 Iowa and No. 10 Air Force at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at 4 p.m. CST for senior day Saturday. NU earned a team score of 428.450.

The Huskers started on still rings, starting the meet off strong with a team score of 71.800. Senior Wyatt Aycock started off the meet for Nebraska, earning a 13.55. He was followed by redshirt freshman Austin Epperson, who earned 14.35 for his routine. Seniors Zach Hedval (13.90) and Donovan Arndt (14.50) both continued to post consistent scores for their last regular season meet. Junior Robbie Kocks finished out the rotation, earning a 15.50, just short of his record-setting 15.55 performance.

NU then moved to vault for their second rotation. Sophomore Sam Chamberlain got his taste of vault for the third time this season, earning a new personal best of 14.75. Junior Josh Ungar followed suit, grabbing a 14.60 for his vault. C.J. Schaaf competed third, earning a season-high 15.00. Aycock earned a 14.60 just after, but it was junior Grant Perdue who anchored the vault lineup, tying his season best 15.20.

Nebraska finished out their first half on parallel bars, earning a team score of 71.800. A returning All-American on parallel bars, Chamberlain led the team, securing a score of 15.10. Aycock followed close behind, earning a 15.00. Senior Eric Schryver (14.45), junior Louis Klein (13.80) and Epperson (13.15) rounded out the five-man lineup.

The Huskers started off the second half of the meet on high bar, earning a team score of 71.250 on the event. Aycock grabbed a 13.70, followed closely by Klein, who earned a 13.85. Freshman Antonio Castro and Epperson both earned 14.10 for their routines. Ungar followed suit, earning a 14.15. Eric Schryver made the biggest impression on the event, earning a 15.05. This marked a new personal best for the senior.

NU continued on to floor, looking to continue their streak of consistent performances in the five-team matchup. Sophomore Ethan Lottman started out the event with a solid 14.10, followed by freshman Antonio Castro with a 13.10. House led Nebraska, earning a 14.70 for his routine. Ungar (14.60), Perdue (14.65) and Aycock (14.50) finished out the rotation, unable to beat House's score.

The Huskers looked to finish senior night strong on pommel horse. Aycock finished off his last regular-season event for Nebraska as a clear leader, earning a 14.30 for his routine.  Castro (13.70), House (13.65), Lottman (13.60) and Schryver (12.95) all struggled on the final rotation.

Nebraska finished out the meet with a total team score of 428.450. Robbie Kocks took home the individual event title on rings, while Grant Perdue (vault) and Eric Schryver (high bar) made it onto the top three individually. Wyatt Aycock finished second in the all-around with a score of 85.650.

NU will have a week away from competition before returning home to host the 2014 Big Ten Championship at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The two-day championship will take place on March 28-29. The first day will kick off at 6 p.m. CST, while individual finals on day two will start at 4 p.m. CST. Both days of the championships will air live on the Big Ten Network.
