Huskers Lead at Mountain View Collegiate

Tucson, Ariz. - Three Huskers closed the opening day of the Mountain View Collegiate in the top 10 to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to the top of the leaderboard after two rounds on Friday.

Nebraska heads into Saturday's final round with a two-round total of 579, including a tournament-best 288 in the second round on the par-72, 6,277-yard layout of the MountainView Golf Course. 

The Huskers opened the day with a 291 to sit two strokes behind Gonzaga after the opening round. Nebraska pushed to a five-stroke lead over Kent State (292-292-584) and a seven-stroke lead over Gonzaga after NU's even par second round.

Sophomore Cassie Deeg leads the Huskers in the individual standings, sitting in second place with a 36-hole score of 142, including a two-under-par 70 in the second round. Deeg is two strokes off the pace set by Gonzaga's Alice Kim (72-68-140).

Senior Katelyn Wright is just one stroke back of Deeg in a tie for third place at 143 after rounds of 72 and 71. Fellow senior Steffi Neisen gave the Huskers three golfers in the top 10 after a two-round total of 146 (74-72).

Freshman Jordan Chael also carded a pair of solid rounds of 74 to enter the final round in a tie for 24th at 148. 

Sophomore Morgan Smejkal from Columbus posted rounds of 78 and 77 to sit in a tie for 58th at 155, while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup.Freshman transfer Sarah Pravecek posted a two-round score of 156 (80-76) while making her first appearance for Nebraska. The Omaha native also played as an individual outside the NU lineup.

The Huskers will shoot for their second tournament title of the season on Saturday, beginning with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. (CT).
