Wong Claims Academic All-America Award
Lincoln - Nebraska women's gymnast Emily Wong captured second-team Capital One Academic All-America honors, when the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its women's at-large teams Thursday, June 6.
Wong, an eight-time All-American in competition for Coach Dan Kendig's squad, earned her first CoSIDA Academic All-America honor as a junior in 2013. The native of Grand Forks, N.D., posted a stellar 3.92 GPA as a nutrition science major. She became the first Husker women's gymnast to claim CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since Richelle Simpson in 2005.
Wong finished third in both the all-around and on floor exercise at the 2013 NCAA Championships to lead the Huskers. She was also the 2013 Big Ten All-Around champion, while capturing individual conference titles on bars, floor and beam. The two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection in competition is a also a two-time academic All-Big Ten award winner.
Wong captured the 13th CoSIDA All-America award in program history for the Husker women's gymnastics team, while pushing Nebraska's nation-leading total across all sports to 304.
