Huskers Take Down No. 8 Minnesota

Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 10 Nebraska volleyball team (10-2, 3-0) swept the No. 8 Minnesota Gophers (14-2, 2-1) in three sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) in front of 8,223 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday night.

Kelsey Robinson led Nebraska on the night with 21 kills on 40 swings for a .450 hitting percentage. Kadie Rolfzen tallied a double-double with 11 kills and a match-high 12 digs. Mary Pollmiller handed out 39 assists, while Meghan Haggerty recorded seven kills and six blocks on the night.

Nebraska hit a season-high .385 for the match and out-blocked the Gophers 9.5-2.5. The Huskers also out-dug Minnesota 39-36.

Minnesota took a 7-5 lead in the first set, but the Huskers countered with a 3-0 run out of a timeout to make it 8-7, NU. A double-block from Amber Rolfzen and Haggerty put Nebraska up 16-13, but the Gophers came back to tie the set at 21-21 and force the Huskers to call a timeout. An ace from Amber Rolfzen propelled Nebraska to the 25-22 first set win.

Robinson posted eight kills in the first set, while Kadie Rolfzen and Haggerty both had four. Pollmiller dished out 14 assists as Nebraska hit .318 for the set. The Gophers hit at a clip of .314.

The two teams tied eight times before the Gophers took an 12-9 lead in the second set, but the Nebraska block came on strong as NU went up 13-12. A tip shot from Kadie Rolfzen, made it 17-15, Huskers, while a service ace from Robinson helped the Huskers take the second set 25-19.

Robinson recorded six kills in the second set, while Kadie Rolfzen had three. Pollmiller recorded 12 assists as NU hit .464 in the set and Minnesota hit .214. Nebraska out-blocked the Gophers 3-0.

A solo block from Pollmiller propelled NU to a 6-3 lead in the third set, while a kill from Cecilia Hall made it 11-9, Nebraska. Minnesota came back to make it 18-17, Nebraska, but a 4-0 run put NU up 24-18. The Huskers held on to win the third set 25-19 on a kill by Robinson.

Robinson tallied seven kills in the third set, while Kadie Rolfzen had four kills. Pollmiller tabbed 13 assists, helping Nebraska to a .406 hitting clip. Nebraska out-blocked Minnesota 5.5-1.5 in the set.

The Huskers return to action tomorrow to take on the No. 23 Wisconsin Badgers at 7 p.m., at the Devaney Center. The match will air live on NET in Nebraska and will also be streamed online on the Big Ten Digital Network.
