Kenny Bell
On how the bye weeks have been

“Very nice. It has been great, especially getting some guys healthy. Guys are feeling better now going into these last six weeks that we have ahead of us. We definitely needed these two bye weeks. They couldn’t have timed up better for us.”

On the possible return of senior quarterback Taylor Martinez
“I am very optimistic (he will return). I would love to have Taylor back. I have always wanted Taylor as our quarterback, but at the same time I have just as much faith in Tommy (Armstrong Jr.) and Ron (Kellogg III). They have been playing good football for us. Optimism is high with Taylor. I am excited to see him back with pads on practicing. Whoever is going to be healthy is who I want out there on Saturday.”

On how Martinez looked at practice Sunday
“Looked good, moving well, so like I said we are very optimistic.”

On the short passes that worked against Minnesota last year
“Minnesota has been the same for three years now. I think we can expect the same kind of things out of them this year, not that they haven’t gotten better. That is not what I am saying, as far as schematically how they play the game will be very similar to last year.”

On his success against Minnesota the past few years
“Just coverage really. Opportunities. Just like Quincy (Enunwa) has taken advantage of being open this year. It is really what the defense gives us is what we are going to take. Past couple of years Minnesota has given us big plays in areas that were more to my strength. I was blessed to make some big plays the past two years.”

On if the bye weeks were good for the team and this final six-game stretch
“Preparation-wise absolutely. It gives you a chance to take a deep breath and watch some film. I think more so health-wise is the biggest factor that is playing for us. We have been a little banged up through the first six games, so for us to get some rest it couldn’t have happened any better for us.”

On Nebraska's depth at wide receiver
“I think not only does it speak of the depth we have but the maturity of it. We are going deep into our offense now with Spencer Long out, and Quincy and I have been banged up the last couple of weeks. We have a lot of guys stepping up, obviously Tommy and Ron, so it is not easy to come in to play for a guy who has played three or four seasons here. The mental aspect is more than the physical. It is nice seeing the young guys and the guys who haven’t played much doing the things they are doing. I am proud of those guys, we talk about it in every single meeting. We are going to need every single guy. Everybody makes a difference.”

On the Husker faithful traveling to away games
“I don’t feel like we have been on the road since I have been here, honestly. UCLA was packed with Nebraska fans, I think Ohio State was the only one that kind of felt like an away game. It is nice, it makes you feel like you are at home when your crowd is just as loud as the home crowd.”
