Lincoln - The No. 17 Nebraska women's basketball team got doubles from Jordan Hooper and Emily Cady on its way to a 75-34 exhibition victory over Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Hooper, a 6-2 All-America forward from Alliance, Neb., led all scorers with 20 points while adding 11 rebounds and three steals. She hit 8-of-18 shots from the field, but went just 1-of-7 from three-point range on the day.

Cady, a 6-2 junior forward from Seward, Neb., pitched in 11 points and game highs with 12 rebounds and five steals. Cady hit just 2-of-6 shots from the field but went a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line.

Hooper and Cady combined for 16 points in Nebraska's 23-3 surge over the final eight minutes of the first half to take control of the game.

Cady's former Seward High School teammate Hannah Tvrdy pitched in 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Tvrdy went 2-for-4 from three-point range, connecting on half of the Huskers' makes on a 4-for-19 three-point shooting game as a team. It was the second straight exhibition game in which the 5-9 freshman produced double figures for the Big Red.

Sophomore Rachel Theriot managed seven points and four rebounds in her season debut after sitting out last Sunday's exhibition win over Pittsburg State.

Junior guard Tear'a Laudermill added eight points, five rebounds and three steals, despite going 1-for-6 from the field. Laudermill went 6-for-6 at the line to help the Huskers finish 25-of-33 (75.8 percent) at the foul stripe on the day.

As a team, Nebraska finished the game just 36.5 percent (23-63) from the field, but the Huskers held UNK to just 20.8 percent (11-53). Nebraska outrebounded UNK, 51-42, and won the turnover battle 33-22, in a sloppy game for both teams.

"It was kind of disappointing today because we took a step back," Nebraska Coach Connie Yori said. "You want to see improvement from one game to the next, and we definitely didn't see that today. I felt like we did some good things against Pittsburg State, but it is pretty hard to find many positives in the way we played today. It was a little surprising because I felt like we had a good week of practice. We need to come back and have a good week of practice and hopefully show a lot of improvement against UCLA."

Loper senior Nicole Arp scored seven points and had eight rebounds to lead the Lopers, while Sydney Seberger and Tori Payne each contributed six points.

Nebraska overcame poor first-half shooting to take a 38-11 lead into the halftime locker room. The Huskers hit just 30 percent (11-37) from the field in the half, including 2-for-11 from three-point range.

The Big Red found their shooting strokes in the last eight minutes of the half, erupting on a 23-3 surge to turn a 15-8 lead into a 38-11 advantage. Hooper scored NU's last nine points of the eruption, Cady, Tvrdy and Laudermill combined for the other 14 points. Cady hit the half with nine points and six rebounds, while Laudermill and Tvrdy each pitched in six points.

Sydney Seberger led the Lopers in the first half with four points, which came on back-to-back baskets in 16 seconds midway through half. The Lopers finished just 4-of-26 (15.4 percent) from the field in the half, and did not hit a field goal in the final 8:50.

Nebraska won the turnover battle 18-6 in the half, while leading 27-24 on the boards.

The Huskers open regular-season play this Friday with Game One presented by Ameritas against UCLA. Tip-off between Nebraska and the Bruins is set for Noon with live statewide television coverage provided by NET. Tickets are available now at Huskers.com.
