Huskers Cruise Past Mavericks in Fall Finale
Omaha, Neb. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team won six of nine relays and Nicole Schwery won the three-meter dive on the way to an 86-34 relay meet victory over Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday.
The Huskers began the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Nebraska's squad of Jacqueline Juffer, Kristin Strecker, Shannon Guy and Alexandra Bilunas finished in a time of 3:54.55.
In the meet's next event, the 600-yard freestyle relay, Nebraska got its second win of the day. Morgan Flannigan, Bailey Pons and Natalie Morris finished in 5:47.86 to earn the victory for the Huskers.
The 200-yard freestyle relay saw Juffer and Bilunas join Bria Deveaux and Rebekah Land for the Husker's third win in as many events. The squad finished four seconds ahead of Nebraska's B squad with a time of 1:38.46.
In the meet's lone individual event, the three-meter dive, Nicole Schwery took first place for the Huskers with a score of 268.27. Schwery's victory marked the first of the season for the sophomore.
The Huskers swept the 300-yard butterfly, 300-yard backstroke and 300-yard breaststroke relays for their final three victories of the meet. Deveaux, Morris and Julia Roller took the 300 fly (2:56.27), Juffer, Land and Erin Oeltjen claimed the 300 back (2:55.46) and Guy, Strecker and Katie Ditter earned the victory in the 300 breast (3:21.02).
Nebraska-Omaha earned victories in three events, including the final two of the meet. The Mavericks won the 300 medley relay in 3:04.00, the 200 medley relay in 1:55.24 and the 400 free relay in 3:39.62.
With the meet victory, the Huskers improved their overall record to 3-2-1 on the season. The squad will now have nearly three weeks before they take their annual holiday training trip. After that, Nebraska will next compete on Saturday, Jan. 25, when they host conference rival Illinois at 11 a.m. on senior day.
