Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 59 Nebraska men’s tennis team (4-3, 0-0 Big Ten) swept Creighton (1-1, 0-0 Big East) by a score of 7-0 on Saturday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Huskers earned the doubles point despite a tough loss at the No. 1 position before rallying in the singles to sweep the match on only one dropped set in all the singles matches.

Beginning the match at doubles, Nebraska took the early lead with two quick wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. At the No. 2 position, NU’s Dusty Boyer and Andrew Dzulynsky outpaced CU’s Elliott Baker and August Nysted 6-3 while fellow Huskers Scott Elsass and Charlie Shin ousted Creighton’s Harrison Lang and Nick Thompson 6-2 at the No. 3. The match victory was sealed at the No. 1 position when Husker Boyer dropped the Bluejays’ Paluch 6-3, 6-5 (7-2). The remaining matches played through when NU’s Vasileios Stavropoulos out-shot CU’s Lang 6-5 (7-1), 6-1 at the No. 5 while fellow Big Red teammate Beau Treyz toppled Creighton’s Quinn Dippel 6-2, 6-4. The final match of the night went through three sets, ultimately ending in a Nebraska victory in the tie-breaker when Husker Zitsch scrapped the win over CU’s Aaron Chalstrom 6-1, 5-6 (4-7), 1-0 (10-8).

“It was a good team win and I was proud to see the team bounce back from an earlier loss today,” Nebraska Head Coach Kerry McDermott said. “Beating Creighton 7-0 was a solid victory. I think Coach (Tom) Lilly has one of his best teams and they are a very good group. We need to have a good week of practice now and get ready for our trip to Atlanta to take on UAB and Georgia State next week.”

Next up for the Huskers is a four match road trip that will set them against UAB, Georgia State, Monmouth and Cornell. The Huskers play UAB on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. and Georgia State on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
