Huskers Slip to Nittany Lions 4-3 at Home
Nebraska fell to Penn State 4-3 at home on Friday at the Nebraska Tennis Center.

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team (8-15, 0-10 Big Ten) were defeated by Penn State (6-16, 2-8 Big Ten) by a score of 4-3 at home on Friday. The Huskers sealed the double point early but were unable to stop the Nittany Lions rally comeback, dropping four of the singles matches to give up the lead and the match.

In doubles, Nebraska's Maike Zeppernick and Izabella Zgierska dominated Penn State's Katherine Whiteaway and Carmen Sandor 8-1 at the No. 2 while fellow Huskers Mary Hanna and Maggy Lehmicke ousted the Nittany Lions' Dasha Sapogova and Katia Blik 8-6 at the No. 1, giving the Scarlet and Cream the doubles point. The match between at the No. 3 court between NU's Hannah Sulz and Lisa Andersson against PSU's Marie Frederique-Bedard and Taylor Shukow was 7-7 and the tie-breaker at 5-1 in favor of the Big Red with Sulz and Andersson en route to a victory but the match was called early and didn't finish once the point was decided.

In singles, Nebraska's Sulz swept Penn State's Lisa Petruzillo 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 while fellow Husker Zeppernick also claimed a victory at the No. 4 over the Nittany Lions' Shukow 6-2, 6-2 pushing the match total to 3-0 in favor of the Big Red. PSU's Katherine Whiteaway began comeback rally at the No. 5 where she defeated NU's Andersson 7-6 (7-1), 6-0. 

Penn State's Blik continued the rally at the No. 2 where she toppled Nebraska's Zgierska 6-4, 6-4 while fellow Nittany Lion Sandor grabbed a victory over the Huskers' Hanna 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 to tie the match at 3-3. The final point was earned at the No. 1 court by PSU"s Sapogova against NU's Lehmicke 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 to give Penn State their second Big Ten win and leave the Huskers without a conference victory so far this season.

Nebraska plays their "Senior Day" final regular season match against Ohio State at home on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. and will honor senior Zeppernick during the match for her final home match of her career.
