Nebraska women's golf coach Robin Krapfl recently announced the addition of 2012 Nebraska Class A state champion Sarah Pravecek to the Husker roster.
Pravecek transferred to Nebraska for the spring semester, after competing at Nebraska-Omaha during the fall semester of 2013. Pravecek was granted a one-time transfer waiver and will be immediately eligible for the Huskers in the spring semester of 2014.
Pravecek was one of the top high school golfers in the state of Nebraska, leading Omaha Marian to a pair of state championships in 2009 and 2010, before claiming an individual state title as a senior in 2012. Pravecek, who was a three-time first-team all-state golfer at Marian, added a fourth-place finish as a sophomore in 2010 and a fifth-place finish as a freshman in 2009.
"We are excited it worked out for Sarah to join our team," Krapfl said. "She has really developed as a player in the last year, and when a spot opened up on our roster I was thrilled to find out Sarah was available. She will be a great addition to the team. Sarah should jump right into the battle for a position in the top six. Since she is from Nebraska she already knows many of her new teammates, which should make her transition very easy.
A spot became available on the NU roster after redshirt freshman Abbie Hunke chose to leave the team and focus on academics at Nebraska. Hunke is a pre-nursing student from Snyder, Neb.
Pravecek spent her first semester of college at Nebraska-Omaha, where she competed in 11 rounds and produced an 81.4 stroke average for the Mavericks. She opened her collegiate career at the Chip-N Club Invitational by tying for 49th in a 75-player field with a three-round total of 247 (83-81-83). She followed with a tie for ninth in a 38-player field at the North Dakota Fall Classic (84-83-79-246).
Pravecek finished eighth in a 60-player field at the SIU-Edwardsville Intercollegiate with back-to-back rounds of 80, before closing the fall with a tie for 29th in a 57-player field at UMKC Fall Invitational. She fired rounds of 84-79-79 to finish with a career-best three-round total of 242 in Kansas City.
In high school, Pravecek was a four-year letterwinner for Coach Jim Miller at Marian High School. As a senior, she was the individual medalist at the 2012 Class A state championship. A three-time first-team all-state selection, she was also the Metro Conference champion in 2010 and 2012. As a senior, Pravecek claimed medalist honors in seven of eight tournaments and posted a 77 stroke average. She also matched her personal best with a round of 69. Pravecek led Marian to the Metro Conference team title.
As a junior, Pravecek won five of seven tournaments in a season cut short by illness. She fired a personal-best 18-hole score of 69. As a sophomore in the fall of 2010, Pravecek was the Metro Conference champion. She helped the Crusaders capture their sixth consecutive state team title, while finishing fourth as an individual. Pravecek helped Marian to a state team championship as a freshman in 2009, while finishing fifth as an individual.
Sarah is majoring in business administration (actuarial science) at Nebraska. Her uncle, Gregg Barrios, was a starting place-kicker for the Nebraska football team, lettering for NU in 1986-88-89-90.
