West Point, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Nebraska rifle team finished 2-0 for the weekend after defeating No. 6 Army by a score of 4,669-4,650 on Sunday.
“We had another great performance, not just today but this weekend overall,” Coach Underwood said.
Lauren Phillips led the Huskers in both disciplines. Phillips fired a 587 in smallbore, while Rachel Martin tallied a 582, to help give the team a 10-point lead after smallbore. In air rifle, Phillips shot a 591. Martin also aided the team with a score of 590 and the Huskers were able to get the win. The Huskers finished with a 2,311 in smallbore and a 2,358 in air rifle.
“The team has taken complete ownership of the vision of our team,” Underwood said. “With each shot, training session and match they continue to come together and fuel the bus.”
Joseph Todaro and Richard Calvin had strong performances for Army. Todaro ended with a 581 in smallbore while Calvin scored 590 in air rifle. However, the team was not able to defeat Nebraska. The Black Knights had a team smallbore score of 2,301 and team air rifle score of 2,349.
Nebraska is 10-2 for the season after Sunday’s victory. This concludes the regular season for the Huskers. Nebraska begins post-season action on Sunday, Feb. 23 when the team travels to Murray, Ky. for the NCAA Qualifiers, set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
