Romero, Johnson Honored by Soccer America
Lincoln - Nebraska soccer was represented by a pair of student-athletes on Soccer America's annual awards list for the 2013 season. Ari Romero landed on the MVPs second team, while Jaycie Johnson received All-Freshman first team distinction.
Romero, who was recently allocated to play for the Seattle Reign of the NWSL, became the 12th Husker All-American and claimed Nebraska's 18th NSCAA All-America award in school history. The Surprise, Ariz. native was an NSCAA All-Region First Team honoree and Big Ten Defender of the Year as she worked every second of the final 15 matches on her way to averaging more than 91 minutes per match in 2013.
Johnson, a Winnebago, Mo. native, came to Lincoln and made an immediate contribution to the Nebraska offense with a pair of scores in her debut match as the forward led NU with 17 tallies, tied for 13th in the country and third amongst freshman. On Nov. 15, Johnson recorded four goals in the NCAA First Round to become the first freshman and fifth player in NCAA Tournament history to accomplish the feat. Johnson earned a number of awards including All-Big Ten Second and Freshman Team honors, while also being named 2013 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Tournament.
