Huskers in Hunt Heading to Final Round

Rochester, N.Y. – The Nebraska men’s golf team is in second place after firing 581 over the first two rounds of the Oak Hill Intercollegiate on Monday.

The Huskers trail tournament host and leader Notre Dame by seven strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round. Nebraska opened with 289 before shooting 292 in the second round at Oak Hill Country Club, a par-70, 7,145-yard layout. NU is seeking its first tournament title since the 2012 Fairway Club Invitational.

Senior Matt Record paced the Huskers on the first day of action in New York with a 139 total after 36 holes. Record is in second place individually and trails leader Niall Platt of Notre Dame by two strokes with 18 holes to play.

In the first round, Record birdied three of his final four holes en route to even-par 70. He managed four birdies in the second round for 1-under-par 69. Record took no worse than bogey on any single hole over the first two rounds.

Josh Reinertson is also in the top five after 36 holes with his 145 score. Reinertson, a Gibbon, Neb., native, earned five birdies during the first day of competition, making no worse than bogey on any single hole, like Record. Reinertson opened with 74 before carding 1-over-par 71 in the second round.

Calvin Freeman and Ross Dickson are each on the cusp of the top 10 in a tie for 11th at 149. Freeman made four birdies in all on Monday for scores of 72 and 77. Dickson also had four birdies, producing rounds of 73 and 76 at Oak Hill Country Club.

Senior Manuel Lavin is tied for 28th after shooting 158 over the first 36 holes. After posting 82 in the first round, Lavin responded with 76 in the second round.

Mike Siwa and Ryan Grassel are each playing as individuals at the Oak Hill Intercollegiate. Siwa shot 74 and 80 and sits in a tie for 18th heading to the final round. Grassel carded 82 and 78 and currently sits in a tie for 33rd.

The final round of the Oak Hill Intercollegiate starts on Tuesday at 7:45 a.m. CT. Groups will tee off on Holes 1 and 10. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/indexh.cfm?tournament_id=5496.
