The Nebraska men’s golf team announced the signing of Niko Vui for the 2014-15 season on Thursday.
“We are excited that Niko accepted our offer to attend school here,” Head Coach Bill Spangler said. “He has a tremendous amount of national tournament experience and will add valuable depth to our lineup.”
Vui, a Samoa native, is the No. 1 ranked golfer in the country. He was the low amateur in the 2013 Samoa Open, shooting 8-under-par for the tournament. Vui also became the first Samoan to ever make the cut as an amateur at the Asian Amateur Championships.
In addition, he tied for third at the 2013 Junior World Masters and finished 20th at the San Diego Junior Masters during the same year. Vui has competed in the Aaron Baddeley Junior Championships in each of the last two years.
In the fall, the Huskers added Ben Maschka to the roster for the 2014-15 campaign. Vui will join junior Ross Dickson as the only two international Huskers on the team next season.
