Former Husker golfer Brady Schnell fired a second-round 59 at Sirocco Golf Course on Friday, Aug. 1 while competing at the ATB Financial Classic in Calgary, Canada.

Schnell, an Omaha, Neb., native, became the first player in PGA Tour Canada history to card a 59. Starting on Hole No. 10, he birdied his first two holes before making par on the par-3 12th. Schnell added three consecutive birdies on 13, 14 and 15 before parring Nos. 16 and 17. He closed the back nine with a birdie on the par-4 18th hole to shoot 30.

On his second nine, Schnell birdied Nos. 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 before holing out for eagle on his closing hole, the par-4 ninth. He used a 52-degree gap wedge from 122 yards on his approach to the final hole, which resulted in a front-nine 29.

Schnell’s 59 comes after he opened the tournament with 71 in Thursday’s first round. The ATB Financial Classic continues on Saturday before concluding on Sunday.
