Gina Pelazini provided plenty of senior leadership and great play during her final season at Nebraska. In singles play, Pelazini competed primarily at the No. 5 spot, playing her way to a 9-5 record. When moved up to No. 4 singles, Pelazini was a perfect 2-0, giving her a spring singles record of 11-5.
Pelazini was at her best on the doubles court, teaming up with fellow senior Sandra Noetzel to notch a 11-6 mark at the No. 1 position. They proved to be one of the best duos in the conference, earning first-team All-Big 12 Doubles honors. Pelazini was also recognized for her excellence as a student by being named to the academic All-Big 12 first-team.
Pelazini had her best season as a Husker, posting a 14-9 singles record, earning all of her victories at No. 4 singles. She was also 13-9 in doubles action, notching a 10-8 record at No. 2 doubles alongside Amy Frisch and a 1-0 record at No. 3 doubles with Frisch. Pelazini also complied a 2-1 record at No. 1 doubles with Sandra Noetzel.
After seeing limited singles competition as a freshman, Pelazini stepped into the Husker lineup and posted an 11-11 mark in singles. She was 6-4 at No. 5 singles but also played No. 4 singles during the year. the Rialto, Calif., native earned Big 12 runner-up honors at No. 2 doubles. The doubles pair finished with an 8-6 record, including a 5-5 mark in conference matches.
Pelazini saw significant competition in doubles during the spring as a freshman. At No. 3 doubles, Pelazini and senior Adriana Dulic recorded a 5-7 record as NU's top doubles duo. Pelazini also saw action with Lisa Hart at No. 2 doubles, putting together a 2-1 record. The freshman also saw action in six singles matches and went 3-3, including a 2-1 mark at No. 6 singles.
Pelazini played high school tennis under Head Coach Tim Burroughs for three seasons at Pacific High School. She was a two-year captain and went 250-6 in singles matches at Pacific High. A three-time team MVP, Pelazini never lost a conference match during her three seasons in high school. She reached the Final 16 of the California Interscholastic Federation prestigious Southern section for three consecutive seasons. Pelazini capped her career by being named Pacific High School's Senior Female Athlete of the Year.
An elementary education major, Pelazini is the daughter of Kent and Terri Pelazini. She was born in Riverside, Calif. She has an older brother, Ricky, and an older sister, Cindy. She is one of two native Californians on the Nebraska roster.
