Annie Yang bounced back from missing over half of her junior season due to illness to be one of the top perfomers for the Huskers. Yang was the primary No. 3 singles player for NU as a senior, posting an impressive 13-5 record at the position. She finished the spring with an overall singles record of 14-8, going 0-3 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at the No. 4 spot. In doubles play, Yang played all of her matches with junior Lisa Hart, going 15-5 during the spring. The duo did most of their damage at No. 2 doubles, compiling an outstanding mark of 14-5 at the position, while also winning their lone match at the No. 1 spot. Their 15 doubles wins as a pair matched the tandem of Sandra Noetzel and Jennifer Thoste for the top total on the squad.
Yang was ill for most of the season and was unable to compete in over half of the Huskers' matches. When she was healthy, Yang played each of the top three singles positions and notched a 4-5 mark. She posted a record of 3-3 at No. 1 singles, was 0-2 at the No. 2 spot and recorded a win in her lone match at the No. 3 position. In doubles play, Yang teamed with both Lara Botts and Cathy Liptak at the No. 2 position, but did not record a victory to end the year with an 0-8 record.
Yang proved her stellar freshman campaign was not a fluke by putting together another strong season in her second year. Her performance on the court awarded her first-team All-Big Eight honors, and her success in the classroom earned her a spot on the Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight team.
Yang played at the No. 1 singles spot, compiling a season record of 15-12, 4-3 in the Big Eight. She was named Big Eight Player of the Year, was an All-Big Eight Selection and was a first-team Academic All-American. Yang teamed with Cathy Liptak at the No. 2 doubles spot, ending the season with a 13-6 doubles record.
Yang was a two-time defending Central Coast State High School champion and MVP in 1989, 1990 and 1991. She also received the San Jose Mercury News Athlete of the Week award in 1989, 1990 and 1991, was Peninsula Times Tribune Athlete of the Week, NCTA Inside Tennis Player of the Month for August 1993 and represented the NCTA 16's and 18's on the Intersectional team and the Maze Cup team.
