2016: Following a stellar freshman season Garett King was expected to fill a spot in NU's weekend rotation, but failed to find consistency on the mound • Finished the year with a 5.64 ERA and a 4-2 record over 44.2 innings • Made 19 appearances, including six starts • Ranked third on the team with 41 strikeouts • Made his season debut in a start at College of Charleston on Feb. 20 and lasted 1.0 inning after giving up five runs on five hits • Following a 3.1 inning outing against Arizona, rebounded with 6.0 shutout innings against Northern Colorado • Also tossed 6.0 innings and struck out seven in a win over Northwestern on April 8 • Ended his Husker career after two seasons, as he transferred following the 2016 campaign.
2015: King made an immediate impact as a freshman, as he served as Nebraska’s midweek starter and earned Big Ten All-Freshman honors • Made 16 total appearances, including eight starts, and went 4-1 with a 3.55 ERA • Was a perfect 4-0 in games he started and Nebraska won all eight games he started • Lone loss came in a relief appearance at Iowa on April 26 • Made his Husker debut on Feb. 14 at UNLV, threw 0.2 inning of scoreless relief in a losing effort • Made first career and notched first career win in Nebraska’s home opener on March 10 against Northern Colorado • Gave up one run on three hits over 4.0 innings • Struck out a season-high five batters in a 5.1-inning start against Cal State Fullerton on March 24 • Was dominant against Creighton on March 31 at Hawks Field, holding the Jays to one run on two hits over 8.0 innings, and matched his season high with five strikeouts • Earned Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week honors for his outing against Creighton.
Before Nebraska: A native of Anaheim, Calif., King joined the Huskers after a prep career at Orange Lutheran High School • Picked in the 36th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the New York Mets • Was a 2014 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American and a 2013 Under Armour Preseason All-American • Tabbed as the No. 18 right-handed pitcher in California and the No. 137 right-handed pitcher in the country by Perfect Game • Posted a 15-10 record and a 1.10 ERA during his prep career • Recorded 125 strikeouts to just 30 walks over 171.1 innings • Helped the Lancers to a runner-up finish in the Trinity League in 2013 after the team won the title in 2012 • Was a first-team All-Trinity League pick in 2013 and 2014, while also earning second-team honors in 2012 • Second-team All-CIF Southern California selection in 2013 and 2014 • Lancers were ranked No. 1 in the country during the 2012 season by Baseball America and were a top-10 team in 2013.
