Des Moines, Iowa - The Nebraska men's tennis team begin their weekend stay in Iowa on Friday competing against No. 38 Drake Bulldogs finishing 5-2.

The Huskers gained wins once more from Chris Hobgarski and Vasileios Stavropoulos at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Nebraska had close contests in the No. 1 and No. 4 positions.

The Big Red lost the doubles point with a loss at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions preceding the singles matches.

At the No. 1 doubles position Dusty Boyer and Bradford Zitsch went 6-3 against Alen Salibasic and Ben Lott while partners Scott Elsass and Linus Erhart at No. 2 went 6-1 against Matt Frost and Ravi Patel. Marc Herrmann and Chris Hobgarski did not finish their match against Drake's Ben Stride and Bayo Philips.

In singles play, Dusty Boyer, entered his match against the No. 46 nationally ranked Alen Salibasic where he fought in a close first set going 7-6 (3) following in a 6-3 loss.

At the No. 2 position, Marc Herrman also suffered a loss where he went 6-3, 6-2 playing the Bulldog's Ben Lott who was ranked at an impressive No. 30 in the country.

Andrew Dzulynsky lost a 6-2, 7-5 match against Drake's Matt Frost while Linus Erhart also competed in tough matches against Ravi Patel ending in scores of 7-5, 6-4.

Chris Hobgarski gave the Huskers one of two wins at the No. 5 spot against Ben Stride where he made a 6-3, 6-1 mark. Vasileios Stavropoulos picked up the second win where he went 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 against Drake's Bayo Philips.

"I have to give Drake credit as they prevailed and got the better of us tonight," said Coach McDermott. "We had some opportunities to really make this a tight contest but let some chances get away in some of the first sets that might have made a difference. Good teams take advantage of their opportunities and Drake did that better than we did tonight. We need to put this match past us and regroup to get ready for Eastern Illinois tomorrow!"

The Huskers will continue play this weekend with a dual on Saturday morning, Jan. 31, at 8 a.m., against Eastern Illinois on the Drake campus in Des Moines, Iowa.
