Emma Worley started off her junior year with a 1-2 record in singles play at the Minnesota Invitational from Sept. 21-23. Worley also went 1-2 at the ITA Central Regionals in singles play to finish the fall with a 2-4 overall record. Her top win came in the ITA Central Regionals against Jabrzemski (OU), which she won 6-0, 7-5.
“Emma has an exemplary work ethic and spends a ton of time working to grow her game,” said Head Coach Scott Jacobson. “She competed in five or six summer tournaments and has grown her game significantly since last spring. Emma has a team-first mentality, has genuine concern for her teammates well-being and has a tremendous understanding of the philosophy of our program. We are incredibly thankful to have Emma representing our Husker family.”
In her second year playing for the Huskers, sophomore Emma Worley saw the court during both the fall and spring seasons where she recorded singles victories in both. Worley convincingly defeated Anna Talley of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (6-2,6-0) at the number 5 singles position.
Emma Worley, a prior three-star recruit out of Northville, Mich. joined the Huskers after being named to the 2015 girl’s all-state tennis team by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches’ Association. Worley saw limited action during her fall campaign and did not compete during the spring, taking time to practice and add depth to her tennis ability.
“She has had some very impressive results against both players already competing at the Division I level and those entering college in 2016. On her visit, it was evident that she fits the mold perfectly as to what we desire in a student-athlete here at Nebraska. Emma is a “teamer” through and through. As for her style, she is a grinder off the baseline, with tremendous temperament and a never give up attitude. She is going to be a tremendous asset and competitor for our Husker family and we couldn’t be more proud of her decision to join our Husker family," Coach Jacobson said.
Worley was a member of the Michigan All-State tennis team during her junior and senior seasons for singles competetion. Emma also claimed a Michigan state team championship in 2015 and then a runner-up team title in 2016. She was also a member of Northville High School’s National Honors Soceity.
The daughter of Ross and Laura Worley, Emma was born on June 25, 1998 in Northville, Mich. Emma has two sisters, Annie, 13, and Kate, 14. Worley is majoring in nutrition and health sciences at Nebraska. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2019. She is a four-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. She was a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Emma spends her summers playing tennis, and at the lake tubing and water skiing. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, Izzy.
