2018 (Sophomore)
In her second season with the Huskers, Sierra Hassel competed in every regular-season meet on beam and floor. She hit a career high on floor (9.875) three times, with the latest coming against Iowa on Feb. 10.

She earned her first career event title by sharing the floor crown with teammate Grace Williams, posting a 9.875 against Iowa. An injury prevented Hassel from seeing action in Nebraska's postseason lineups.

Hassel also performed well in the classroom. She was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and earned academic All-Big Ten honors while also claiming spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters of 2017-18. She was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

2017 (Freshman)
Hassel emerged as an important performer in Nebraska's beam lineup down the stretch as a freshman. After competing on floor in the early part of the season, Hassel was inserted into the beam lineup at the B1G Five meet and hit strong routines in each of NU's final four meets.

In her first-career collegiate beam routine, Hassel scored a 9.85 at the B1G Five meet to help the Huskers clinch the Big Ten regular-season title. She scored a career-high 9.875 on beam at the NCAA Lincoln Regional to help NU earn a bid to the NCAA Championships, where she contributed a 9.825 on the event.

Hassel got off to an excellent start in the classroom and the community, as she was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2016-17. She was also a member of the 2017 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Before Nebraska
Hassel trained at Triad Gymnastics in Ankeny, Iowa, under coaches Tom and Donna Moretti and was a club teammate of current Husker Danielle Breen. In 2016, Hassel won titles on beam and floor at the Gopher Invite. A three-time J.O. National Championships qualifier, Sierra finished second on uneven bars at the Level 10 Region 4 Championships in 2014, while finishing seventh in the all-around. She was a Region 4 champion on floor exercise in 2011.

The daughter of Vince and Raquel Hassel, Sierra was born on Nov. 14, 1997. She has a twin sister, Sage, and two younger sisters, Logan and Mesa. Hassel graduated from Johnston High School in 2016. Sierra is majoring in accounting and earned academic All-Big Ten honors in 2018. She was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2018. She is a five-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. She also earned spots on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2017 and 2018.
