2017: Jeff Athey (pronounced Ay-thee) made seven appearances, including one start, before receiving a medical hardship • Hit .222 (2-for-9) and both of his hits were doubles • Had a pinch-hit double against Creighton on April 4 • First career start was March 23 at Cal Poly • Had a double and a run against Northern Colorado on March 8 • Made his debut on March 4 against Arkansas.
Before Nebraska: A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Athey joined the Huskers out of Eden Prairie High School • Was a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable-Mention All-American • Ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 445 overall recruit in the country and the No. 27 third baseman • Tabbed as the No. 2 overall player in the state of Minnesota by Perfect Game • In the rankings, trailed only Nick Hanson, who signed with the Reds after he was taken in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft • Was a part of the Eagles’ 2014 team that finished second at the Class AAA state tournament • Earned all-tournament team honors at the 2015 17U Perfect Game World Series in Goodyear, Ariz.
