2016-17: Freshman

David Samardzija made an instant impact in doubles play as he and teammate Micah Klousia led the Huskers in doubles victories this season with seven. The duo picked up five of their victories out of the No. 2 position for the Huskers and won a Big Ten match together.

Samardzija also picked up three singles wins on the season. 

Before Nebraska
Samardzija competed as a member of the TK Ponikve club team under the direction of Danijel Dvornik. In the 2015/2016 season, he was a finalist of the Senior First League levels in the Croatian League (member of the TC Ponikve). He also was the Vice Champion at the National Championships, U18. Samardzijia also was the Vice Champion at the National Championships in doubles, U18. David Samardzija made it to the semifinals at the Indoor National Championships in 2015. His accomplishments go on as he was a semifinalist at the ITF Široki Brijeg Open and a runner up at ITF Široki Brijeg Open in doubles. In 2013, he was a runner up in the ITF Junior Zagreb cup in doubles. Samardzija was the second best ranked HTS U14. He also was ranked in the top 5 in all age groups for Croatia and had won many tournaments in multiple categories.

Personal
The son of Ilija and Zorica Samardzija, David was born in Zagreb, Croatia on April 14, 1997. He has one brother, Jakov, 15. David is majoring in psychology at Nebraska. He earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2016. He said he chose Nebraska because of the outstanding facilities and the people.
