Lambert Leads Husker Surge in Session II

Bloomington, Ind. – Senior Tim Lambert (125) advanced to the Big Ten Finals during Session II of the Big Ten Championships at Assembly Hall on Saturday night.

After finishing Session I in eighth place, Nebraska climbed up the rankings in the team race to fifth place with 79.5 points. Ohio State leads the team race with 117 points, while Penn State (98.5) and Iowa (95) round out the top three. Minnesota is in fourth place with 81 points.

Lambert, the No. 3 seed at 125 pounds, earned his team-leading eighth fall of the season in the semifinals. He pinned seventh-seeded Elijah Oliver (Indiana) in 5:59 to improve to 28-5 this season. Lambert will face top-seeded Thomas Gilman (Iowa) in Sunday’s finals.

Studebaker, the No. 3 seed at 197 pounds, was also a semifinalist, but fell to No. 2 seed Kollin Moore (Ohio State), 10-8. Studebaker is now 26-7 this season and will wrestle in the consolation bracket on Sunday.

All-American Eric Montoya (133) won both of his matches during Session II to stay in contention in the consolation bracket. He won a 6-2 decision over eighth-seeded Luke Welch (Purdue) before advancing due to injury default from Michigan State’s Austin Eicher.

Colton McCrystal (141) managed a pair of wins on Saturday night, downing Indiana’s Cole Weaver by major decision and Wisconsin’s Cole Martin by decision. Tyler Berger (157) is also still alive in the consolation bracket after a major decision and decision. Berger outscored his two Session II opponents by a combined score of 16-1.

Two-time All-American TJ Dudley (184) added bonus points in both night session matches. He opened with a 16-1 technical fall over Purdue’s Tanner Lynde and added an 8-0 major decision over Wisconsin’s Hunter Ritter. Dudley leads the Huskers with 10 technical falls this season.

Senior Collin Jensen (HWT) also captured two wins during Session II to stay in the consolation bracket. Jensen won by injury default against Illinois’ Brooks Black before capturing a 9-0 major decision over No. 7 seed Youssif Hemida (Maryland).

Senior Micah Barnes (174) lost in the consolation bracket and in the ninth-place semifinal to be eliminated. Sophomore Dustin Williams (165) lost his lone match of the night to be eliminated after a 1-2 showing.

Sunday’s action begins with Session III at 11 a.m. CT/Noon ET. Session IV, also set for Sunday, starts at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET.
