Lincoln, Neb.-- The Nebraska Cornhuskers took on the Toledo Rockets for the first outdoor match of the season, defeating the Rockets 4-3.
In doubles, the Huskers started off strong to unfortunately fell to the Rockets. In the No. 2 spot, David Samardzija and Micah Klousia were the only two successful Huskers, defeating Vince Anzalone and Serjen Olmedo, 6-3. Chris Dean and Dylan Bednarczyk lost the point in the No. 1 spot to the Toledo duo, 6-2. For the tie-breaker, Toby Boyer and Jon Meyer played hard against Juan Carranza and Reid Teatsorth but fell with a close score of 7-6. Toledo received the doubles match point.
Singles began with some good match play by Klousia, who started off the singles play with a point for the Huskers. In the No. 5 spot, he played Thawin Suksathaporn and defeated him 6-0, 6-1. In the No. 4 spot, Chris Dean fell to Reid Teatsorth, 6-1, 6-1. Toby Boyer gave the Huskers their second point by defeating Luka Vitosevic 6-2, 6-4. Tomislav Antoljak also finished his match with the point in favor of the Huskers, with a score of 6-3, 6-3. For the winning match point, David Samardzija defeated Juan Carranza in a nail biting third set, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6. To end, Dylan Bednarczyk played Vince Anzalone and fell 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The Huskers will be back in action tomorrow, March 18 at 1 p.m. to play against the Wichita State Shockers at the Dillon Tennis Center.
