Nine Huskers to Earn Degrees

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln - Nine current and former Husker student-athletes across all sports will earn their undergraduate or graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska during commencement exercises at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Three student-athletes from the Nebraska football program will earn their degrees, including senior fullback Harrison Jordan (Omaha, Neb.). The management major will play his senior season for the Huskers with degree in hand. Another Husker running back from Omaha, Jordan Nelson, will earn his degree as a journalism major. He was a senior I-back for the Huskers in 2016.

Perhaps the most recognizable graduate is former Husker defensive back Michael Booker (Oceanside, Calif.). The No. 1 pick of the Atlanta Falcons (11th overall) in the 1997 NFL Draft, Booker spent five seasons in the NFL and started in Super Bowl XXXIII. At Nebraska, Booker played on national championship teams in 1994 and 1995. In his first year as a starter in 1995, he tied for the team lead with three interceptions before being named the 1996 Fiesta Bowl Defensive MVP with four tackles, three breakups and a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown of Florida’s Danny Wuerffel to put Nebraska up 32-10 in the second quarter. The Huskers went on to a 62-24 win over the Gators. Booker claimed his degree as a sociology major.

Andie Malloy (Allen, Texas), an outside hitter on Nebraska’s 2016 Big Ten champion volleyball team, earned a master’s degree in applied science. It was Malloy’s first degree from Nebraska, after she earned her bachelor’s degree from Baylor before playing the 2016 season for the Huskers as a graduate transfer. She helped Nebraska advance to the 2016 NCAA semifinals.

Ashley Lambert (Newport News, Va.) adds an All-America flavor to Nebraska’s group of summer graduates. Lambert was a three-time All-American during her career as a Husker women’s gymnast. She was a second-team All-American on vault and floor exercise as a senior in 2017, after claiming a second-team All-America award on floor as a sophomore in 2015. Lambert earned her bachelor’s degree as an advertising and public relations major.  She was a three-time academic All-Big Ten selection and a four-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team during her time at Nebraska.

Nikita Pankins (Riga, Latvia) brings an All-America flavor of his own to the Husker class, claiming second-team All-America status as a member of the Nebraska men’s track and field team’s 4x100-meter outdoor relay in 2015. Pankins was a long and triple jumper during his time at Nebraska and majored in management.

Lizzy Kirby (California, Mo.) from the women’s track and field program will also earn her degree after majoring in horticulture at Nebraska.

Justin Jennings (Amarillo, Texas) will earn his degree as a marketing major after competing for four seasons for the Husker men’s golf team. Jennings was Nebraska’s top finisher at the 2017 Big Ten Championships.

Alexandra Mosquera (Armenia, Colombia) completes Nebraska’s list of August graduates. The chemical engineering major was a two-time academic All-Big Ten selection and a four-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship. Mosquera was a member of five Husker bowling teams that competed in the NCAA Championship Match, including NCAA title teams in 2013 and 2015.

Nebraska continues to feature one of the highest graduation rates in the nation, while leading the nation in the number of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans (329) and NCAA Today’s Top Ten Award winners (17) across all sports.
