Freshman (2018-19)
Vanessa Bouvet (pronounced BOO-vay) adds a truly international flavor to the Nebraska women’s golf team. She has lived and played golf all around the world and came to Nebraska from Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

Bouvet, who has shown great length off the tee, claimed top-five finishes in major amateur tournaments from Belgium to Malaysia to Singapore in the past two years and is finding more success and a new home at Nebraska.

She closed the fall season with a career-best tie for second in the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Kapolei, Oahu, Hawaii (Oct. 31). In the lone round of the tournament, Bouvet fired a two-under-par 70 to finish in a four-way tie for second, just one stroke back of individual medalist Hannah Alberto from Sam Houston State.

Bouvet got her collegiate career off to an impressive start by tying for third in a 75-player field at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic (Sept. 17-19). She finished with a three-round total of 214, including a four-under-par 68 in the second round. Her performance on the second day of the tournament tied for the second-best round by a freshman in Nebraska history. Bouvet was tied for the tournament lead with two-time All-Big Sky golfer Tara Finigan from Boise State through 51 holes, after erasing Finigan's seven shot lead to open the final round.

Bouvet tied for 40th with a 227 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge the following week (Sept. 24-26) at the Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo. She settled for rounds of 79 in the first and second, before closing the tournament with a three-under-par 69 in the third round to help the Huskers to a season-best single-round total of 285. She was Nebraska's No. 2 individual finisher at the tournament.

She was Nebraska's No. 2 finisher behind Kate Smith at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Oct. 5-7). She closed the three-day event at 229 (74-79-76) in a tie for 50th. Bouvet added a tie for 50th with a 222 (71-76-75) at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 21-23).

Bouvet's 74.00 stroke average through 13 fall rounds ranked second among the Huskers and was on pace to challenge for Nebraska's freshman season record. She produced four rounds better than par during the fall campaign.

She opened the spring with a 239 (78-83-78) to tie for 76th at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12).

“Vanessa is a power player with the length to be comfortable on any golf course,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “We also expect her to be an outstanding student and teammate who will have a chance to come in and compete for a spot in our lineup as a freshman. Her experience in growing up and playing golf around the world will be an added benefit to our entire team.”

Before Nebraska
Bouvet graduated from Jerudong International School in Brunei in 2018. In the summer of 2017, Bouvet was the runner-up at the 43rd Royal Selangor Golf Club Ladies Amateur Open with a three-round score of 218. She added a runner-up finish at the 29th KGM Open in Sarawak, Malaysia.

In 2016, Bouvet finished third at the Singapore Island Invitational, while also taking fifth at the Belgium International Open. She added a fifth-place finish at the Malaysia Amateur Open in 2017.

She has lived and competed internationally in Syria, Venezuela, New Zealand and in the United States, making her home as a youngster in Houston, Texas. She has also competed in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Belgium, and in the World Amateur Golf Rankings her home country is listed as France.

The daughter of Eric and Patricia Bouvet, Vanessa Boumba Marie-Alice Bouvet was born Jan. 6, 1999, in Damas, Syria. She has one younger sister, Laetitia. Vanessa, who has lived in several countries around the world, also enjoys snowboarding and surfing. During the summer, she enjoys traveling to golf tournaments and visiting family and friends in France and Africa. She is a marketing major at Nebraska. She chose Nebraska over Kentucky and Missouri State.

“I chose Nebraska because of the great coaching staff, the facilities and the atmosphere,” Bouvet said. “I felt that Coach Krapfl was very supportive and gave me the confidence that I would be a good fit for the team. I visited the student-athlete center and the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course and it felt like home.”
