By NU Athletic Communications

Jonesboro, Ark. - The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team finished second at the Mid-Winter Invitational after falling to second-ranked McKendree in the championship final of the best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament Sunday in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Huskers finished the weekend with a total pinfall of 13,426 and a record of 12-1.

The team began Sunday’s play undefeated and as the top seed. The Huskers continued their undefeated run through first match of the day, defeating No. 4 Vanderbilt 4-3. The win sent NU straight to the championship match, while Vanderbilt faced McKendree to decide who NU would play for the title.

McKendree went on to beat Vanderbilt 4-1 for the second spot in the championship match.

In the championship match, the Bearcats came out strong with four consecutive wins over the Huskers, 209-201, 215-174, 192-185, and 212-191, which secured the tournament title and left the Huskers with their only loss of the tournament

“We led from start to finish,” said Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub. “We had more wins than anyone in the tournament and the team preformed quite admirably.”

Three Huskers landed in the top-five as senior Kelly Belzeski won the individual portion of the tournament, followed by second-place finisher Allison Morris. Sophomore Raquel Orozco joined them in the top-five with a fourth-place finish. All three were also named to the All-Tournament team for their performances.

The Huskers will return to the lanes Feb 2-4 at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
