No. 1 Huskers Face OSU In Home Opener

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 1 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team opens conference competition against No. 3 Ohio State on Saturday. The competition will begin at 7 p.m. and will take place at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. As a co-ed meet, the men will compete alongside the NU women’s gymnastics team as they take on Rutgers. The co-ed meet is part of Pepsi Pack the House night where fans can enjoy $1 admission and $1 Pepsi products. Nebraska Popsockets will also be given away as part of the event.

Last Time Out

The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team claimed first place at the 2018 Rocky Mountain Open for the first time since 2000. NU scored a nation-best 407.700 at the meet over No. 3 Ohio State (404.450), No. 9 Arizona State (390.950), No. 11 Air Force (389.950), the United States Olympic Training Center (386.450) and No. 14 Washington (370.600). The Huskers were led by seniors Kyle King and Antonio Castro. King won the floor and vault titles with a score of 14.65 and 14.85, respectively. Castro claimed the high bar title with a score of 14.00.

Scouting the Competition

The Huskers look to come out on top against the Buckeyes for the second time this season. Nebraska and Ohio State previously met at the Rocky Mountain Open, where Ohio State finished second with a score of 404.450. The Buckeyes were without all-arounder Sean Melton, but Melton is expected to return this weekend. Melton is a nine-time all-arounder and a six-time Big Ten champion. At the Rocky Mountain Open, Alec Yoder led the way for the Buckeyes, claiming the pommel horse and still rings title with a score of 15.05 and 14.70, respectively. All-American Seth Delbridge suffered an ankle injury on floor, leaving him out of the competition this weekend.
