Huskers Triumph Over Rams in Season Home Opener, 7-0
Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team dominated the Colorado State Rams 7-0 in its 2018 season home opener at the Dillon Tennis Center Friday evening.
The match started at 6 p.m. CT with doubles competition, where the Huskers pulled in a rapid victory to lead the match, 1-0.
Collecting the Huskers’ first win of the evening was the dominating duo of sophomores Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad. The pair brought in an untouched 6-0 win against Riley Reeves and Emily Luetschwager of the Rams.
With doubles action finishing up in just 30 minutes, the Huskers burst into singles play and continued their sweep of the Rams.
Sophomore Claire Reifeis started off Nebraska’s singles triumphs as she took down Colorado State’s Emily Luetschwager, 6-2, 6-1. Senior Katerina Matysova followed Reifeis’ lead with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ram Emma Corwin, and sophomore Jeannie Lozowski complemented the two with a third singles win against Ram Solene Crawley, 6-4, 6-2, capturing the Big Red’s win over CSU.
Rounding up the Huskers’ domination over the Rams were junior Vasanti Shinde with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Priscilla Palermo, junior Paula Del Cueto Castillo with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Emily Kolbow, and senior Brianna Lashway with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Alyssa Grijalva.
The Huskers will bring their energy from this evening’s match into their two home duels on Sunday. Nebraska competes against the Eastern Michigan Eagles at 10:00 a.m. at the Dillon Tennis Center, followed by a 1:30 p.m. match against the South Dakota Coyotes. Admission to all Nebraska tennis home matches is free.
