Huskers Heat Up Winter Cup Finals

Las Vegas, Nev. - Kyle King, Chris Stephenson and Griffin Kehler represented the Nebraska men's gymnastics team at the Winter Cup Finals on Saturday at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. Kehler finished 19th, King finished 22nd and Stephenson finished 23rd overall out of 28 competitors.

Kehler had two 12th place finishes on floor (13.35) and high bar (13.05). King tied for ninth on floor (13.55) and tied for seventh on vault (14.05). Stephenson had an incredible sixth place finish on floor (14.00).

Sam Mikulak (U.S.O.T.C), Marvin Kimble (Salto Gymnastics Center), Akash Modi (Stanford), Allan Bower (Oklahoma), Sean Melton (Ohio State) and Alex Yoder (Ohio State) finished top six all-around, respectively, and automatically qualified for the 2018 national team. Yul Moldauer (Oklahoma) was also automatically selected based on his World Championship results. The Men’s Program Committee will select six more gymnasts from the participants at the Winter Cup Challenge or from petitions to the team.

King, Stephenson and Kehler are back in action on the road against the Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa. The meet is set to begin on Friday at 8 p.m.
