Huskers Fall to Wolverines, 3-4

Lincoln, Neb. -- The no. 21 Nebraska women's tennis team moves to 12-4 on the season after a 3-4 loss to No. 34 Michigan on Sunday. The Huskers are now post a 1-2 record in the Big Ten Conference.

Husker duo Paula Del Cueto Castillo and Brianna Lashway claimed their tenth doubles win of regular season on Sunday versus Mira Ruder-Hook and Brienne Minor of No. 34 Michigan. Del Cueto Castillo and Lashway set the tone for the rest of doubles competition with a firey 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position. 

Second to pull in a win and the doubles team point for Nebraska, were sophomore's Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad. Also nabbing a 6-2 final score, over Kate Fahey and Alyvia Jones, Reifeis and Haakenstad advance to a 10-3 regular season record at the No. 2 doubles posiion. 

With Nebraska leading the match 1-0, competition was at a high level during singles competition. Picking up the pace senior Katerina Matysova picked up her first win on the match against the Wolverines' Ruder-Hook. Matysova nabbed the 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 5 singles position, where she now posts a team-best 13-2 season record. 

The Huskers then fell behind, giving the win to Michigan, as matches were dropped on courts 2, 6, 3 and 1. 

Junior Del Cueto Castillo picked up a last-minute singles victory over Jones at the No. 4 sinlges position. The Sevilla, Spain, native fought through two tough sets and a tie breaker to pick up 6-1, 7-6 win to give Del Cueto Castillo her first Big Ten Conference singles win of the season. This gave Nebraska one final team point, leaving the match at a 3-4 final mark.
