Guthmiller Leads Huskers at Bighorn Invitational
PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Nebraska men's golf team concluded the final round of the Bighorn Invitational at Canyons Course on Saturday. The Huskers posted a third-round score of 301 and finished the tournament with a total of 889, coming in 12th place. Illinois won the competition at Bighorn Golf Club with a solid third-round score of 268 and a total of 824.
Junior captain Jace Guthmiller again paced the Husker squad with a third-round score of 76 and a total of 221. Guthmiller came in tied for 42nd overall, leading the team for the sixth time this season.
Fellow junior captain Jackson Wendling followed up with the second best total score of 226 after golfing for a stroke of 75 in the final round. Wendling finished tied for 55th overall.
Sean Song came in third for NU with a 59th-place finish after golfing for a score of 75 in the third round and 228 overall. Tanner Owen also had a third-round score of 75 and finished with 229 overall, tying for 60th place.
Cameron Jones rounded out the Husker lineup tied for 62nd after a third-round score of 82 and a total of 230.
The Huskers will look to bounce back and gain momentum in three weeks at the Hawkeye Invitational on Apr. 14 for their last competition before the Big Ten Championships at the end of the month. A full preview of the event will be posted to Huskers.com during the week leading up to the event.
