Podraza Sits Second in Decathlon at Kansas Relays
Lawrence, Kan. - Action at the Kansas Relays began Wednesday at Rock Chalk Park with the decathlon and heptathlon events.
In the decathlon, Nebraska redshirt freshman Zach Podraza sits in second place after five events with a total score of 3,442 points.
Podraza placed third in the high jump with a season-best leap of 6-0 1/2 (1.84m). He took fourth in the 400m with a time of 52.38.
Jared Seay won the 100m dash with a wind-aided time of 11.05, and Zach Podraza took fifth with a wind-aided PR of 11.36.
Seay also won the long jump with a season-best leap of 22-5 3/4 (6.85m), while Podraza set an all-time PR with a mark of 21-10 1/4 (6.66m).
In the shot put, Seay took fifth with a best throw of 38-2 (11.63m), while Podraza was sixth with another PR of 36-8 1/2 (11.19m).
After four events in the heptathlon, Madi Scholl, competing unattached, is 14th with 2,291 points, while Shauna Tweedy is 15th with 2,170.
Scholl set a pair of season bests with a time of 16.85 in the 100m hurdles and a bar of 5-1 1/4 (1.56m) in the high jump, in which she placed fifth.
Tweedy placed fourth overall in the shot put with a throw of 33-10 3/4 (10.33m).
The Kansas Relays continue Thursday with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon competitions. The meet runs through Saturday. Live results all weekend will be available at FloTrack.
