By NU Athletic Communications

Istanbul, Turkey - Former Husker and current U.S. World Team member Jordan Burroughs placed second at the Yasar Dogu International, after falling to world champion Frank Chamizo of Italy in the final.

In a rematch of their Super Match contested in May won by Burroughs, Chamizo earned a criteria victory by a score of 10-10 on Saturday as a result of owning the final two-point move in the match. The series between the two world champions is now tied 1-1 after Chamizo moved up to the 74 kg/163 pound weight class this year. Burroughs won the 2017 world title at 74 kg, his fourth world championship, while Chamizo won at 70 kg/154 pounds. A potential third match could come at the 2018 World Championships, set for Oct. 20-28 in Budapest, Hungary.

Burroughs reached the final by besting Kazakhstan's Bolat Sakayev by a score of 9-5 in the semifinal round on Friday.

In early round action Friday, Burroughs began his run with a 10-0 first-minute technical fall over Saeed Zervanatereq of Iraq, before winning a match by cautions over Nurykan Azamat of Belarus in the quarterfinals.

Fellow World Team member James Green also competed at the Yasar Dogu International, but dropped his opening bout to Sefa Aksoy of Turkey, 5-4. Aksoy fell in the quarterfinals, ending Green's tournament as he did not advance to the repechage.
