Huskers Drop 3-1 Decision in Exhibition Match
Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team fell to Arkansas, 3-1, in its lone tune-up before the regular season at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Thursday night.
The Razorbacks struck early, as Taylor Malham scored in the fifth minute off a corner kick rebound to give them a 1-0 lead. NU tied the game in the 13th minute when senior Faith Carter found the back of the net after a cross from sophomore Grace Brown. Carter, one of five seniors on the 2018 squad, played 59 minutes in the exhibition and led the Husker offense with three shots (two shots on goal).
The score remained tied at halftime, 1-1, with Nebraska outshooting Arkansas by a 5-2 margin. In the 52nd minute, Arkansas’ Abbi Neece gave the Razorbacks the lead for good when she scored off an assist from Tyler Runnels. Tori Cannata scored in the 82nd minute for Arkansas to extend the lead to 3-1, which ended up being the final tally.
Nebraska outshot Arkansas by a 9-8 margin, with a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder made the start and earned one save in 80 minutes of action before sophomore Mayte Corral entered the game for the final 10 minutes.
The Razorbacks, who made the 2017 NCAA Tournament, also defeated Kansas State in exhibition play on Aug. 4.
The Huskers open their 25th regular season as a soccer program on Thursday night in Norman, Okla. NU battles former conference foe Oklahoma, starting at 7 p.m. (CT).
