By NU Athletic Communications

Houston, Texas -- Senior Toby Boyer fell short to No. 7 Tim Ruehl, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2 in the singles qualifying round of the Texas Tamale Houston Cup, a USTA/ITF Pro Circuit event, on Saturday in Houston, Texas.

Boyer fought hard and won the first set against Ruehl, a promising sophomore at Arizona State, but ultimately lost the battle in three sets.

The Ham Lake, Minn. native now travels back to Lincoln to prepare for the ITA Central Regional Championships on Oct. 18-22 in Tulsa, Okla.

Last year, Boyer reached the tournament's singles final, being only the second Husker to do so since Karl Falkland won the tournament in 1993. Boyer's finish as a runner-up in the Regionals earned him a spot in the ITA National Fall Championships -- he was the only player representing Nebraska at the tournament.
