Korgan, Johnson Lead Huskers at Bradley Classic
Peoria, Ill. – The Nebraska cross country team returned to action today for the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Illinois. The Husker men finished 22nd in the 8K with 587 points, while the women placed 34th in the 6K with 930 points.
"The Bradley Classic helped to decide our eighth and ninth runners for the Big Ten Championships," Harris said. "It was tough conditions with the cold but that is cross country. Jacob Korgan ran his best race of the year to lead our team and Kaitlynn Johnson also came on and led our team today."
Jacob Korgan had the best finish on the men’s side, placing 89th with a time of 25:59.5. Jordan De Spong was the next Husker to cross the finish line with a time of 26:02.0 (94th) and Ryan Kennedy was behind him, clocking a time of 26:06.4 (102nd). Ryan Martins and Alec Sery wrapped up the top five finishers for the Big Red with times of 26:16.2 (127th) and 26:28.6 (154th), respectively.
Kaitlynn Johnson led the Big Red women with a PR time of 22:54.5 to place 174th and Nicole Colonna was .2 seconds behind her to finish 175th. Jessi Smith ran a personal best time of 22:58.0 (183rd). Gabrielle Boucher was the fourth Nebraska runner to finish with a time of 23:12.4 (205th). Mia Morck rounded out the top five with a time of 23:43.6 (241st).
"Our young runners have received good experience from our racing schedule," said Harris. "Now our top seven runners get a chance to compete in the highest level meet in the nation this weekend."
Nebraska will wrap up its regular season tomorrow for the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin. The women will run in the 6K at 10:45 a.m. and the men's 8K race will follow at 12:15 p.m.
