Bouvet, Smith Earn Top 10 Finishes in Hawaii

By NU Athletic Communications

Kapolei, Hawaii - Vanessa Bouvet fired a two-under-par 70 to tie for second-place at the rain-shortened Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Wednesday.

Bouvet, a freshman from Brunei, finished in a four-way tie for second just one shot back of individual medalist Hannah Alberto from Sam Houston State, who shot a 69 in the tournament's only round. The tournament's first and second rounds were canceled on Tuesday.

Bouvet played solid golf from start to finish, putting up three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey in the round. She played the back nine at two under par.

It was Bouvet's second top-five finish of the fall after opening her Husker career with a third-place finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., Sept. 17-19.

Bouvet wasn't the only Husker to post a top-10 finish on the par-72, 6,128-yard layout of the Kapolei Golf Club. Junior Kate Smith (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) carded a one-under-par 71 over 18 holes to produce her second straight top-10 finish to close the fall after tying for eighth at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown (Oct. 21-23). Smith, who opened the fall with a sixth-place finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, led the Huskers with a trio of top-10 finishes in five fall tournaments.

With Bouvet and Smith leading the way, the Huskers finished in third place in the 12-team field. Nebraska's one-over-par 289 was just two strokes behind the tournament champions from Florida International (287) and one shot back of runner-up New Mexico State (288).

Sophomore Noor Ahmed (Folsom, Calif.) continued to play solid golf for the Big Red with a one-over-par 73 to tie for 17th in the individual standings, while redshirt freshman Kirsten Baete (Beatrice, Neb.) tied for 28th.

Junior Haley Thiele completed Nebraska's lineup with an 81 to tie for 53rd, while Megan Whittaker tied for 56th with an 82 while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup.

Nebraska will return to action for the spring portion of its schedule beginning with the Lady Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12).
