Huskers Dominate Individual Standings at Warhawk Invitational
Milwaukee, Wis.- The Nebraska bowling team finished fifth at the Warhawk Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. with a total pinfall of 13,698 and an 8-5 record on Sunday.
Four Huskers finished in the top 10 in the individual standings. Leading the Big Red, Junior Allison Morris finished first with her average of 238.8. Junior Estefania Prieto also landed in the top five, taking fourth place with an average of 223.4. Both Morris and Prieto were named to the All-Tournament Team. Raquel Orozco, with her average of 219.4, and Meghan Straub, with her average of 218, finished in sixth and ninth places, respectively.
The Huskers started Sunday off with a match against No. 4 Sam Houston State. Nebraska took the first two matches, before falling to the Bearcats in three of the next five matches. In their second match of the day, the Huskers were defeated by No. 1 Vanderbilt by a score of 3-4. To close out the tournament, the Huskers played No. 6 Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks came out strong, taking the first game 213-257. The Huskers responded, winning the next four games by scores of 255-202, 206-196, 200-197 and 211-193, respectively, to secure a fifth-place finish.
This tournament concludes the Husker’s fall season of competition.
“We had a great fall season,” said Head Coach Bill Straub. “We won 30 games and lost eight and that is how the postseason is elected. It is about who you play and beat, not how many tournaments you win, and right now, no one has more wins. This team has the potential to be a very successful team, they are all in great shape and I am excited to see what the season brings.”
The Huskers return to the lanes on January 11-13 at the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.
