White Tops Red at Intrasquad Meet
One meet record was broken, and one was tied as fans got their first opportunity to see the 2019 Nebraska track and field team in action on Saturday. The white team defeated the red team by a score of 127-106 at the annual Intrasquad Meet at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.
On the men’s side, the white team topped the red by a tally of 62-44. George Kusche of the red team won the 3,200 meters with a time of 8:49.20, which set a new meet record. His time broke the previous record at the Intrasquad Meet set by Trevor Vidlak in 2012 with a time of 8:53.15.
On the women’s side, the white squad edged the red team with a score of 65-62. Lakayla Harris (red team) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.53, tying the meet record set by Mara Weekes in 2012.
Mayson Conner (red) and Raynesha Lewis (red) barely missed out on setting new meet records. Conner won the men’s high jump with a leap of 7-2 1/4 (2.19m). His leap was .02 meters away from tying the meet record and .03 meters from breaking it. Lewis claimed the women’s long jump crown with a distance of 19-8 (15.99m). Her jump was .06 meters away from a new meet record.
Saturday also gave young Husker fans the chance to compete on the same track that the Huskers run on. Lil Huskers (grades eight and below) ran in both the 60-meter and 100-meter dashes.
Nebraska will host the Graduate Classic at the Devaney Center Indoor Track on January 11-12 to open the 2019 season.
