NU Set for Conference Match-Up

The No. 3 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team will battle No. 5 Penn State in State College, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 26. Competition is set for 3 p.m. CT. This weekend’s meet will be the first conference competition for the team. New in 2019, a Big Ten Regular-Season Champion will be crowned. This match-up will count toward those standings.
Nebraska and Penn State will continue the on-going rivalry this weekend. While Penn State seeks redemption for the 2018 NCAA Finals where Nebraska narrowly beat the Nittany Lions for the fifth place finish. Nebraska seeks redemption for the 2018 Big Ten Championship where Penn State finished third and Nebraska finished sixth. After a strong finish at their season opener, NU is hungry for a win.

Last Time Out
At its season opener, the Nebraska men’s gymnastics team claimed three event titles and had a number of career-high scores at the Rocky Mountain Open. Anton Stephenson claimed both the vault and all-around title. Griffin Kehler claimed the floor title and third place on all-around, while Khalil Jackson tied for third place on pommel horse. Andrew Zymball claimed third place on parallel bars, setting a career-high score.

As a team, the Huskers finished second behind No. 1 Oklahoma with a score of 404.350.

Scouting the Competition
No. 5 Penn State enters the competition after their sixth straight West Point Open Team Title on Jan. 11-12 with a score of 407.500
Junior Sam Zakutney and sophomore Alex Frack led the way for the Nittany Lions, each placing in the all-around. Zakutney earned his second-straight all-around title and three event titles, while sophomore Alex Frack took fourth.

Series History
The last time the Huskers and Nittany Lions met in the regular season was in 2018, where Nebraska came out on top 404.500 - 401.550. Penn State is seeking revenge after Nebraska narrowly beat them in the 2018 NCAA Finals.
