Huskers Face OU, Illinois in Home Opener
Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 7 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team hosts its first home meet against No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 4 Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 2. The competition will begin at 6 p.m. and will take place at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The meet is part of Pepsi Pack the House night where fans can enjoy $1 admission and $1 Pepsi products.
Last Time Out
After a battle between Nebraska and Penn State, the Nittany Lions came out ahead with a score of 409.700-395.000. Despite falling to Penn State, the Huskers posted two career bests. Jake Bonnay stuck the landing and posted a 14.00 on high bar, while Jonathan Scripnick posted a 14.35 on vault.
Scouting the Competition
No. 1 Oklahoma enters the competition after topping its previous season - and NCAA - best team score against the Buckeyes, with a 423.950. The Sooners are led by co-captains Genki Suzuki who claimed the all-around title and Yul Moldauer who claimed the parallel bars title against the Buckeyes. Also entering the competition is No. 4 Illinois, coming off of its Big Ten opener. Illinois blew past Iowa 410.450-398.800 on Jan. 26. Led by Alex Diab, who earned his 23rd career title on still rings, the Fighting Illini notched season-high scores on all six events against the Hawkeyes.
