Kusche Breaks Another Record as Huskers Begin Action at Two Meets

For the second weekend in a row, George Kusche has broken a Nebraska school record. The redshirt freshman ran 7:57.16 in the 3,000 meters at the ISU Classic on Friday night, the fastest indoor time in school history on any size of track. Kusche finished fifth overall in the event with the No. 6 time in the Big Ten this season.

Chanel Freeman set the tone with a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a PR of 8.38. Her time was good for No. 8 on the NU top-10 list and ranks fourth in the Big Ten this season. Judi Jones placed fourth in the 5,000 meters during the early section of the event with a time of 16:34.08. Her time was a PR by 23 seconds and was the eighth-fastest time in school history on any size of track.

Several members of the distance squad joined Jones with PRs in the early sections of the meet. Erika Freyhof and Rachel Brush also ran personal-best times of 16:53.80 and 17:20.76, respectively, in the women's 5,000 meters. Brush's PR was a 25-second improvement from her previous best.

In the men's 5,000 meters, Bailey Timmons ran a personal-best time of 14:31.72. Myles Fleming also earned a personal best of 14:50.69, a 30-second improvement.

Among the Huskers who competed at the Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Elijah Lucy finished second in the early section of the long jump with a distance of 24-5 1/2 (7.45m). Michael Hoffer was ninth at 23-3 1/2 (7.10m).

Ieva Turke set a personal best in the long jump at 19-8 3/4 (6.01m) to finish fourth in the early section, while Shylia Riley jumped 19-4 3/4 (5.91m) and was eighth in the invitational section.

Lakayla Harris took 10th place in the 60 meters in 7.46. Tyler Loontjer tied for 10th in the pole vault, clearing 17-0 3/4 (5.20m).

The Tyson Invitational will begin with field events at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and the Iowa State Classic will commence with both field and running events at Noon.
