San Diego, Calif., - The Nebraska men's golf team heads to San Diego, Calif., for its first stroke play tournament of the spring at the Lamkin San Diego Classic. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be played at the San Diego Country Club and will consist of 15 teams from around the country. Four Pac-12 teams will be in attendance and there will be representation from the ACC, Big 12 and SEC as well.
Yankton, S.D., native and Huskers senior Jace Guthmiller has played the tournament golf course and came away with several key takeaways with how the course is going to play.
“Tee-to-green, it’s fairly simple, it’s not one of those courses where you really have to pinpoint your spots,” Guthmiller said. “We like the course, you can hit a lot of drivers and kind of work from there.”
With two top 10 teams in the field and six top 50 teams in the field, the Huskers will have a chance to play against several very talented players. Junior Tanner Owen spoke about embracing that challenge in addition to maintaining his focus and preparation habits.
“The better the competition, the better we’ll become, no matter what the outcome,” Owen said. “At the same time, you’re still playing against yourself and the course. However everyone else plays is how they’ll play. My goal is to take it shot-by-shot, play smart and not leave any shots out there.”
