Nebraska senior Jared Seay is in second place in the heptathlon after day one of the NCAA Track and Field Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Seay has 3,380 points and trails Arkansas' Gabe Moore by 43 points heading into the final three events on Saturday. Seay took second in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 24-3 3/4 (7.41m) on his first attempt. He nearly set a personal best in the 60 meters, running 7.03, just .01 seconds off his PR. Seay threw 44-9 3/4 (13.66m) in the shot put, and he cleared 6-10 1/4 (2.09m) in the high jump, finishing second in that event.

The heptathlon resumes on Saturday with the 60-meter hurdles at 11:45 a.m. The pole vault and 1,000 meters will follow.

Two other Huskers will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday. Freshman Mayson Conner will debut in the high jump at 1 p.m. Senior Angela Mercurio, a second-team All-American last year, will participate in the triple jump at 3:30 p.m.
