Virga Caps Senior Year At NCAA Championships

Morgantown, W. Va – Nebraska rifle senior Hannah Virga competed today at the 2019 National Collegiate Rifle Championships in Morgantown, W. Va. Virga fired 588 in the air rifle discipline to take 23rd place. The two-day attendance at the Championships was 2,215, an event record.

Virga’s score initially landed her in a tie for 22nd with Barbara Schlaepfer of Murray State, but she eventually fell short by one point when the inner tens were totaled. She edged Daniel Enger of Navy with a higher final series score (100-98) after they both fired 588 and tied in the inner tens.

The top eight shooters in each discipline qualified for finals. After finals were complete, Kristin Hemphill (TCU) fired 248.2 to take first. Her teammate, Angeline Henry, was close behind with 247.9. Third place went to Rosemary Kramer of Georgia Southern (226.2). Kramer’s qualifying score of 599 set a new NCAA record. JT Schnering from Alaska was fourth with 205.1. Milica Babic (West Virginia) was fifth with 183.5. Spencer Cap and Peter Fiori (Air Force) finished sixth and seventh with 161.6 and 141.5, respectively. Clayton Hanson (Army) finished eighth with 120.2.

At the end of team competition, TCU took first with an aggregate score of 4,699. West Virginia took second with 4,692. Air Force (4,687) and Murray State (4,677) took third and fourth, respectively. Kentucky took fifth with 4,665. Army (4,646), Navy (4,642) and Alaska (4,640) completed the field.

This concludes match competition for Nebraska's 2018-19 season.
